One of the first questions I hear after a family reserves their date is a simple one: should we photograph in the studio, or somewhere out in the world? There is no wrong answer, only the right one for your family, your season, and the artwork you want on your walls. Here is how I help you decide.
What a studio session gives you
The studio in Douglasville is a controlled, quiet space designed for one thing: making you look and feel your best. The light is consistent from the first frame to the last, the temperature is comfortable for babies and grandparents alike, and every set is styled before you walk through the door. Nothing depends on the weather, the crowds, or the angle of the sun.
Studio portraits tend toward the timeless. Clean backdrops, fine-art sets, and careful lighting put all the attention on faces, hands, and the way your family fits together. What an on-location session gives you

Newborns are photographed in the studio, where warmth, safety, and calm are within my control at every moment. Cake smash sessions live in the studio as well, because the set, the cake, and the wardrobe are all designed and provided there. Maternity, family, mommy and me, couples, and senior sessions can happen in the studio, on location, or at a destination, so those are the sessions where this choice truly opens up.
Think about the youngest and oldest people in your group. Very small children often do beautifully in the studio, where the session is contained and the pace is easy to manage. Older children and teenagers frequently relax more outdoors, where there is space to move and less pressure to hold still.
Consider the artwork you want
Before you choose a setting, picture the finished piece. Where will it hang, and what will the room around it look like? A refined studio portrait pairs naturally with a formal living room or a gallery wall of classic frames. An airy outdoor image with soft greens and warm light brings a hallway or bedroom to life. When you know the destination of the artwork, the setting for the session tends to choose itself.
Consider the season
Georgia gives us generous stretches of beautiful outdoor light, and it also gives us summer heat and unpredictable spring storms. Studio sessions can be scheduled in any month without a second thought. Outdoor sessions are loveliest when the weather cooperates, so if your heart is set on a field at golden hour, we will plan the date with the season in mind and keep the studio as a graceful backup.
Why not both?
Some families do not have to choose. Senior packages are built to combine a studio set with one or more locations, so a senior can have a polished formal portrait and a relaxed outdoor series in the same experience.
