What to Wear for Your Maternity Photography Session

Choosing what to wear is the most common question I hear from expecting mamas — and the best news is, at Grace Portrait Studios you don’t have to figure it out alone. Our couture client closet holds more than 100 gowns and pieces styled specifically to flatter your beautiful bump.

1. Form-fitting over flowy (mostly)

Fitted gowns that hug your belly photograph beautifully because they celebrate the shape you’ve worked so hard to grow. Flowing fabrics and trains add drama and movement — we’ll often use both in a single session for variety.

2. Choose colors that feel timeless

Soft neutrals, jewel tones, and rich solids age gracefully and keep the focus on you. Our brand favorites — soft lilacs, plums, and warm golds — photograph like a dream.

3. Coordinate, don’t match

If your session includes family, pull two or three shades from your gown and dress everyone within that family of colors.

4. Don’t forget the details

Delicate jewelry, a soft robe for cozy shots, and your own special pieces add meaning. Hair and makeup, while not included, make a wonderful difference — ask me for trusted recommendations.
